About the event
The "Let's Beat Lymphoma" Walkathon was started by Mark and GiGI Hatcher, founders of Etiquette on the Runway Elite.
They started the walkathon after losing someone close to them from the cancer, and quickly found others that were living and beating Lymphoma as well as those whose friends or family who also had lost someone.
Lymphoma is a cancer that starts in cells that are part of the body's immune system. The lymphatic system is the
body's disease-fighting network. It includes the lymph nodes, spleen, thymus gland, and bone marrow. The main
types of lymphoma are Hodgkin's lymphoma and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Treatment may involve chemotherapy,
medication, radiation therapy, and rarely stem-cell transplant.
During the walkathon participants walk around a track for an hour with music played by a DJ. During this time the DJ may ask participants to skip, hop, walk backwards, etc. to keep the hour fun and exciting. After walking the community can explore the vendor booths. There will be food, clothing booths, carnival games, and many more!!!
Students from ERE participate by raising funds by selling Butter Braids and Cookies, as well putting together teams for the walkathon. All funds raised from Butter Braids and the "Let's Beat Lymphoma" Walkathon are donated to the Lymphoma Research Foundation.
